The Reviews are In: MAN OF LA MANCHA is “Terrific,” “Full of energy and pathos”

“An enthusiastic recommendation: MAN OF LA MANCHA is definitely worth the trip to Jean’s Playhouse in Lincoln, NH. A vigorous, impassioned cast, inspired by the charismatic, energy-filled performance of Scott Severance as Quixote; a stellar set design with incredible lighting and visual effects … and a tight and attentive musical score performed by a small but extremely capable pit. In its disparate elements as well as taken as a whole, MAN OF LA MANCHA is everything you could want in a professional summer theatre offering, and more. Definitely go and see it while it’s here.”

“This show was full of energy and pathos and, in my opinion, one of Severance’s best performances in his long, historic career…. MAN OF LA MANCHA is one of those shows not produced so often these days. There’s no overt sexual connotation and it’s not a bio-pic of the members of a popular rock band. It’s simply classic, well-constructed musical theater. A good choice and a very good production. Go see it!”

MAN OF LA MANCHA is the beloved musical about mad knight Don Quixote’s search for “The Impossible Dream.” Miguel de Cervantes, an author imprisoned during the Spanish Inquisition, reenacts the moving story of Don Quixote to win back a package of papers that had been taken from him.  His inspiring and passionate story follows a man on the edge of madness and tells of love and adventures. MAN OF LA MANCHA is playing August 20-25 at 7:30 pm and August 26 at 2:00 pm.

In the end, though, Pippin finds that happiness lies not in extraordinary endeavors, but rather in the un-extraordinary moments that happen every day. In September 1934 at the Cleveland Grand Opera Company, Tito Morelli, Il Stupendo, the greatest tenor of his generation, arrives late to appear for his one-night-only performance as Otello.  When he becomes unexpectedly incapacitated, the staff scrambles to find a convincing enough replacement to fool the audience.  When the real Il Stupendo is ready and able to assume his role, events begin to unfold disastrously and hilariously.

IMPACT Children’s Theatre tour comes home to Lincoln !

IMPACT2

Lincoln, New Hampshire – June 17, 2015 – IMPACT Children’s Theatre tour comes home to Lincoln on Wednesdays and Saturdays

Audiences around the state have fallen in love with the IMPACT Children’s Theatre Company from Jean’s Playhouse!  IMPACT stands for Imagination and Music! Professional Artistry in Children’s Theatre and is the White Mountain’s touring Children’s Theatre company.

IMPACT tours to multiple venues around New Hampshire for eight weeks every summer. At each venue, the company performs a new 40-minute musical every week. These shows, while based around well-known fairy tales, are original works written and choreographed by IMPACT’s talented and aspiring writers and composers. After each performance, the company greets their young audiences for another half-hour, autographing programs and speaking with those who have questions.

Audiences delight in the creative and entertaining music, characters, costumes and sets. As one mother from Concord told us,

“As a parent I can’t say enough wonderful things about the actors your organization chose.  The cast you put together was made up of intelligent and dazzling personalities whom all made this summer so much fun for my son. They have made such a positive impact on his life and created such warm memories. The scripts were a fun twist that kept him on his toes each week and made him read every possible version of the stories to prepare what your organization would have up your sleeve. This was also fun for the adults in the audience.”

The Pine Hill Singers’ Spring Benefit Concerts, “March of the Women!”

The Pine Hill Singers will present their annual spring concerts, “March of the Women!”  on June 5th, 7th and 12th. This concert celebrates the many facets of strong women throughout history, and about the audacity and boldness of women speaking out loud.  It’s about formidable women coming of age and dealing with old age; marching as suffragettes; and singing out against slavery, war and famine. It’s also about good (and not so good) ordinary women — housewives, lovers, daughters, sisters and grandmothers standing up for themselves, each other, and their families.

From Madrigals to pop tunes, these concerts include a moving collection of songs rejoicing in the feminine spirit.  The varied program includes Sojourner Truth’s And Ain’t I a Woman, Dame Smyth’s The March of the Women, and Holly Near’s 1000 Grandmothers, – all inspirational songs from women’s rights leaders from the civil war to the 1970’s.  You’ll hear songs about women surviving wars and starvation, and celebrating sisterhood; along with the humorous Sisters by Irving Berlin and the sultry Broadway songs You Don’t Own Me and Whatever Lola Wants.

March of the Women!” will be presented on Friday, June 5th, at 7:00 pm at the Alumni Hall in Haverhill, NH and on Sunday, June 7th, at3:00 pm at the Littleton Opera House, Littleton, NH and on Friday, June 12th, at 7:00 pm at the Sugar Hill Meeting House in Sugar Hill, NH. The Pine Hill Singers are under the musical direction of Judy Abbott and Anita Bonnevie is their pianist.  Admission for all concerts is by donation.

For more than 17 years, the Pine Hill Singers have brought outstanding performances to the local area. Their concerts include a large repertoire from classical to jazz, Broadway to patriotic, and serious to silly. The close knit choral singers from NH and VT meet weekly, and from this weekly sharing of music, they know the personal healing as well as the community outreach in the joy of music. Just after 9/11 the singers began to insert a quote on all their programs attributed to Leonard Bernstein – “This will be our reply to violence: to make music more intensely, more beautifully, more devotedly than ever before.”    Thus the Pine Hill Singers have established a fund for future musicians. They will be selecting their seventh award recipient in June 2015.

Come celebrate the many faces of the feminine spirit at our spring concert, “March of the Women!”
