A 25th Anniversary Tribute to Veterans, Firefighters, and First Responders
The Honor Summit: 9/11 Tribute in Lights on Mount Washington will light the night sky from September 9 through 12, 2026, as two powerful beams rise from the 6,288-foot summit of Mount Washington, New Hampshire, marking the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001. Inspired by the dual beams that honor the day in New York City, The Honor Summit pays tribute to the lives lost, the first responders who answered the call, and the veterans whose courage continues to protect our communities.
The lights will be visible from communities across New Hampshire and the surrounding region on clear nights, rising roughly three miles into the sky above the Northeast’s highest peak. Some of the best viewing will come from miles away, with locations east and west of Mount Washington offering the clearest opportunity to see the two beams as distinct columns of light. Please note that the Mount Washington Auto Road will not be open for viewing the display.
The Honor Summit was created by Renee Plummer of the Granite Springs Foundation, a New Hampshire 501(c)(3) nonprofit, with support from the State of New Hampshire and partners throughout the region. All sponsorship dollars are designated for the installation itself, and remaining funds will benefit four organizations serving veterans, first responders, and their families: Harbor Care, Operation Delta Dog, Hidden Battles Foundation, and Camp Resilience.
Major partners include Eversource, Sunbelt Rentals, Malloy Events, Wellpoint, Service Credit Union, GrottLuker & Co., Harbor Care, and Exeter Hospital, along with community banks and businesses from across New Hampshire and Maine.
There is no single right way to take part. Gather with family in your backyard, invite neighbors, organize something with coworkers, or simply step outside, look toward Mount Washington, and take a quiet moment to remember. A free event toolkit with planning checklists, promotional templates, and branded assets is available for anyone hosting a viewing gathering.
