Profile
White Mountain Art Syndicate
White Mountain Art Syndicate is a nonprofit arts organization committed to creating a place of art, culture, and community throughout northern New Hampshire. Founded in 2020, the syndicate develops community-centered public art and oversees several regional initiatives, including its flagship program, the NOCO Mural Project. Through this program, the organization has installed more than 40 seasonal murals and 11 permanent murals within the Littleton region. These works contribute to a strong sense of place by transforming everyday spaces into vibrant visual landmarks.
Social Connection
A core part of the syndicate’s mission is to support and create meaningful public art encounters. The organization works to incorporate art progressively throughout town centers and provide opportunities for residents and visitors to engage with it. Youth engagement plays an essential role. The syndicate fosters an extraordinary learning atmosphere by involving young people in design, painting, and visual storytelling. These experiences build artistic skills, encourage confidence, and inspire ownership within the creative process.
The Murals
Murals created through the NOCO Mural Project are installed on a rotating schedule in partnership with local businesses, community groups, municipalities, and regional arts organizations. Artists, volunteers, and students collaborate to develop works that reflect the culture, history, and character of the North Country. Community events such as mural walks, public painting days, and seasonal unveilings invite the public to experience art up close while contributing to the creative process.
Funding
To ensure that public art remains viable and sustainable, White Mountain Art Syndicate continues to develop strong programs, partnerships, and funding streams. Support comes from memberships, sponsorships, grants, and individual donations. These contributions fund materials, artist stipends, volunteer coordination, and ongoing educational outreach. Sponsors gain public recognition and the satisfaction of helping transform shared spaces into cultural assets for the entire region.
A recent highlight is the restoration of the “Welcome to Bethlehem” mural on the exterior of the WREN Local Works Marketplace and Gallery. Completed in the summer of 2024 by local artist Zach Johnsen, the piece celebrates regional beauty and cultural identity. Its unveiling was marked by a community block party that brought residents, artists, and supporters together in celebration of local creativity.
Get Involved
Membership or sponsorship with White Mountain Art Syndicate offers a direct way to support a growing cultural movement. Public art strengthens community identity, draws visitors, and supports local economies. Individuals and businesses can host murals, volunteer, or make donations that help expand the presence of public art across northern New Hampshire.
