Featured Member: Nesting to Feathers Stitchery
This week’s featured member, Nesting to Feathers Stitchery, is bringing creativity, community, and the art of quilting to 111 Saranac Street, Suite 150, Littleton, NH. Owned by local quilter Georganne Connell, the shop offers a welcoming space for both experienced quilters and those just beginning to explore the craft.
A Passion Turned into a Business
Georganne has been quilting for many years, making baby quilts, family quilts, and special projects for loved ones. About five years ago, she dove deeper into the craft, learning through online tutorials, reading patterns, and building her skills. “Quilts really are an act of storytelling,” she says. “There’s a lot of thought that goes into them, and I want to help people send their messages to the people they love through what they create.”
Her love for quilting and the vibrant quilting community in the Littleton area inspired her to open Nesting to Feathers Stitchery. She officially opened the shop in October 2024 and has already connected with many local quilters, including members of the Dalton and Littleton quilting groups. “People here are so enthusiastic. The ideas are just bouncing around in their heads, and it’s really fun to help them see those ideas come to life,” Georganne shares.
Services and Offerings
Nesting to Feathers Stitchery offers a variety of quilting services, classes, and events for all ages and skill levels. Every Thursday afternoon, the shop hosts a “Block Party” where participants create a block of the week. Georganne also provides personal lessons, including instruction for children or adults who want to learn quilting basics.
For those ready to finish their quilts, she offers long arm quilting services to piece together the quilt top, batting, and backing into a completed blanket or wall hanging. Customers can participate in the design process or learn how to use the long arm machine themselves.
On Saturdays, the shop hosts “Sit and Sew” sessions, a free and open time for anyone to bring their sewing machine and work on projects in a collaborative space. “Making something every day makes you feel really good inside,” Georganne says. “It’s also about building community. I love when people come back to show me what they made from fabric they purchased here.”
Products in Stock
The store carries high-quality fabrics from brands such as Hoffman, Bernard, Xigo, and Riley Blake. Quilters can also find essential notions including Creative Grids rulers, pins, threads in a variety of colors, and other quilting tools. Georganne has curated the selection to ensure that quilters have everything they need in one place.
In addition to materials, Nesting to Feathers Stitchery sells some of the quilts made in the shop. This makes it a destination not only for local crafters but also for visitors looking for a meaningful keepsake from their time in New Hampshire’s North Country.
Memorable Projects
When asked about her favorite project, Georganne admits it’s hard to choose. “Every new project is fabulous. When I give someone a quilt and see the smile on their face, that’s the best part.”
One recent highlight was teaching a 10-year-old girl to make a quilt block. “She picked out all the colors herself, and it’s coming together beautifully. She’s so proud of it, and that’s really rewarding.”
Another standout is a wall hanging currently displayed in the shop window. Made from scraps of fabric that others had dismissed as unattractive, the finished quilt surprised everyone with its beauty. “I made it in a rainstorm when I was feeling distraught,” Georganne recalls. “Now people come in and say, ‘That’s really pretty.’ It reminds me that beautiful things can come out of challenging moments.”
A Place for Creativity and Connection
While the shop can accommodate five to six people for most classes and open sewing sessions, Georganne is exploring options for larger events in the future. The intimate setting fosters connection among participants, encouraging the exchange of ideas and techniques.
She also enjoys seeing how customers incorporate fabrics into their own creative visions. “When someone buys fabric here, I encourage them to show me what they make from it. It’s fun to see the transformation from raw materials to finished pieces,” she says.
Plan Your Visit
Nesting to Feathers Stitchery is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily, with Tuesday and Wednesday hours available by appointment. Whether you’re looking to learn quilting from scratch, finish a special project, or simply spend time sewing in a friendly environment, Nesting to Feathers Stitchery offers a place to explore your creativity and connect with fellow makers. As Georganne puts it, “It’s about more than just sewing. It’s about making something meaningful and sharing it with others.”
