Featured Member: UpRooted Greenhouse
Featured Member UpRooted Greenhouse has become a vibrant staple in the Littleton area, providing stunning plants, expert landscaping services, and engaging community events. Owned and operated by Lori Mahoney, UpRooted Greenhouse is a story of passion, resilience, and deep-rooted family tradition.
A Legacy of Growing
Lori ‘s journey in the greenhouse and landscaping industry is a story of dedication that spans three generations. Coming from a family with a rich history in horticulture, she was immersed in the world of plants from a young age. Her grandparents started a greenhouse in Winchester, and her father continued the family tradition with his own garden center. Lori began working alongside him at just 15 years old, gaining firsthand experience in plant care, landscaping, and customer service.
Over time, Lori developed her own landscaping business, taking on small projects that quickly grew into a full-fledged career. After moving to the North Country, she continued to build her expertise, later returning to her family’s roots in the industry while raising her children. Her passion for plants and people ultimately led her to open her own greenhouse.
The Birth of UpRooted Greenhouse
In 2019, Lori opened her first greenhouse location near Moore Dam under the name Deeper Roots. In 2022, she rebranded the business as UpRooted Greenhouse, a fitting name that represents both her personal and professional evolution. Rather than walking away from her passion, she took a leap of faith, committing to her vision and philosophy for plant care and sustainable landscaping.
One of the standout features of UpRooted Greenhouse is its commitment to natural gardening methods. The UpRooted team avoids the use of chemical sprays, instead choosing beneficial insects and sustainable planting techniques. Their approach reflects a deep respect for nature, as well as a desire to educate and inspire customers to cultivate their own thriving gardens.
More Than Just a Greenhouse
UpRooted Greenhouse is more than a place to buy plants. It’s a hub of creativity, learning, and community connection. Lori, alongside her best friend and right-hand woman Kirsten Ash, has cultivated an environment where people can come together to celebrate gardening and design. Kirsten, who left a career in hospitality management to join Lori, has been instrumental in the greenhouse’s growth.
The greenhouse hosts a variety of community events throughout the year. Their holiday wreath-making workshops and centerpiece classes have become a seasonal favorite, providing not just beautiful take-home pieces but also an inviting atmosphere for friends and families to gather. The annual Galentine’s Day event has also been a hit, bringing together women for a day of floral beauty and celebration, complete with brunch and a much-needed dose of February color.
Beyond events, UpRooted Greenhouse has formed strong partnerships with local businesses and organizations. Lori and her team provide seasonal floral installations for homes and commercial spaces, including breathtaking arrangements at The Freehouse. Their attention to detail and artistic vision have made them a sought-after resource for beautifying indoor and outdoor spaces across the region.
Landscaping with Heart
UpRooted Greenhouse offers a range of landscaping services, from garden design and maintenance to custom container plantings. Lori’s expertise extends to consulting, where she helps clients envision and execute their perfect outdoor spaces. Her philosophy is rooted in working with nature rather than against it, ensuring that each landscape thrives for years to come.
In addition to individual homeowners, UpRooted Greenhouse works with the Chamber on the hanging flower baskets along Littleton’s Main Street. With each season, Lori refines her approach, experimenting with new plant selections to create more vibrant, lasting displays.
Looking Ahead
As UpRooted Greenhouse continues to flourish, Lori envisions further growth, including the potential expansion of their cut flower offerings. While time and staffing constraints have made large-scale flower farming a challenge, it remains a dream for the future. For now, Lori and Kirsten remain focused on what they do best: growing beautiful plants, creating stunning landscapes, and fostering a welcoming space for plant lovers of all experience levels.
With the greenhouse set to open for the season in early May, there’s plenty to look forward to at UpRooted Greenhouse. Whether you’re in need of expert landscaping, a gorgeous floral display, or simply a place to soak in the beauty of nature, Lori and her team are ready to welcome you with open arms.
