The North Country Chamber Players “Summer Serenade” Concert
Saturday, July 25, 4pm (Dow Pavilion, Franconia)
Sunday, July 26, 4pm (Mountain View Grand Resort, Whitefield)
The North Country Chamber Players invite audiences to their Summer Festival 2026 concert, “Summer Serenade” featuring works by Carl Nielsen, Robert Kahn and Johannes Brahms. Performances will take place at 4:00 p.m. on both Saturday, July 25, at Dow Pavilion in Franconia, and Sunday, July 26, at the Mountain View Grand Resort in Whitefield. This entire concert weekend is dedicated to the memory of Len Reed to celebrate his enduring legacy.
Serenades are meant to provide pleasure at social gatherings, outdoor entertainment, and festive occasions. This week’s featured work, Brahms Serenade No. 2 in A, for winds and strings, has a gentle, pastoral atmosphere. With its relaxed, songful, and conversational feel, and its dark mellow colors and long beautiful melodies, this is chamber music on a larger scale that feels like sharing stories with friends. Bernhard Scully, shares: “Kahn came out of the Brahms tradition, and you hear that warmth immediately. Oboe, horn, and piano is a rare combination, and this is beautiful music that disappeared for reasons that had nothing to do with its quality. I am looking forward to performing it with Kemp and Reiko.”
The North Country Chamber Players performing are Susan Nidel, flute, Kemp Jernigan, oboe; Bernhard Scully, horn; Ah Ling Neu, viola; Ronnie Bauch, violin; Reiko Uchida, piano; and Chris Finckel, cello; Joining the ensemble as guest artists are Pascal Archer, clarinet, Rémy Taghavi, bassoon, and Peter Weitzner, double bass.
The Players offer Pay-What-You-Wish ticket pricing for all concerts. Seating is limited, and free online reservations are strongly encouraged. The recommended ticket price is $25, payable at the door, although there is no minimum ticket price required for admission.
In addition to the Summer Festival concerts, the ensemble will also perform the ultimate musical storytelling piece, Peter and the Wolf at The Colonial Theatre on Wednesday, July 22, at 11:00 a.m., and at the Rialto Theatre on Thursday, July 23, at 11:00 a.m. These family-friendly performances are free and open to the community.
