Featured member Junk Lady is bringing a fresh, community-centered approach to sustainability with the opening of JUNK LADY DAY! The Free Shop in Littleton. Launching on Sunday, April 13, 2025,  from 3 -7 pm, this one-of-a-kind free store invites locals to browse and take home gently used goods at no cost. Located at 111 Saranac Street in the Tannery Marketplace, The Free Shop is the latest evolution of a mission-driven business built around waste reduction, community support, and environmental responsibility.

From Junk Removal to Community Resource

Founded by Easton resident Becky DiChristopher, Junk Lady began as a local trash and junk hauling service. What started as a practical solution for homeowners, renters, and cleaning crews quickly turned into something more. DiChristopher saw the potential in the items being left behind, including furniture, tools, kitchenware, clothing, and other useful household goods that didn’t belong in a landfill. Instead of discarding them, she began setting them aside, looking for ways to pass them on.

The Birth of the Free Shop

Those efforts took shape in the form of Junk Lady Days, pop-up events hosted over the last two summers in Littleton, Bethlehem, and Whitefield. At these free events, people were encouraged to pick up whatever they needed, no questions asked, no payment required. The response was overwhelming. Families, individuals, and community members showed up not just to save money, but to connect and contribute to a growing culture of reuse.

With the success of those events, DiChristopher saw an opportunity to create something more permanent. JUNK LADY DAY! The Free Shop now offers a dedicated space where these items can be shared on a regular basis. The shop will be open on the third Sunday of each month, with specific dates and times announced on Junk Lady’s Facebook page. Guests are encouraged to bring reusable bags, explore the space, and take what they need. There are no strings attached, and no donated items will be accepted.

Supporting the Mission Through Donations

Though everything in the store is free, donation buckets will be available during open hours. Contributions are cash-only, with a portion going directly to local food pantries. This simple model is at the center of DiChristopher’s mission and the heart of the project: give what you can, take what you need, and help keep useful items out of the waste stream.

A Different Kind of Free Store

Importantly, JUNK LADY DAY! The Free Shop is not a traditional donation center. It does not accept drop-offs or outside goods. Everything on the shelves comes from Junk Lady, LLC’s own clean-outs, conducted through paid hauling services. These jobs often involve clearing out attics, barns, estates, and storage units; places where people tend to accumulate more than they realize, and where valuable items are often left behind.

The shop itself reflects a thoughtful, boutique-like aesthetic, offering a wide range of ever-changing goods. One standout feature is “Harvey’s Hardware,” a dedicated space filled with tools. It was inspired by a client in his 80s who had spent his life tinkering and fixing. After helping him transition out of his home, DiChristopher chose to honor his legacy by creating a place where others could access the tools they need, whether to make a repair, build something new, or start a small project of their own.

A Broader Commitment to Community

Junk Lady’s work goes far beyond the walls of JUNK LADY DAY! The Free Shop. In recent years, DiChristopher has donated hygiene products, household supplies, and clothing to organizations including Second Chance Animal Rescue, Franconia’s Bancroft House, Bethlehem’s Detox Center, and food pantries across the region. Her business is built on the idea that one person’s leftover belongings can become another’s daily essentials, and that the impact of thoughtful redistribution can ripple across a community.

Looking Ahead

JUNK LADY DAY! The Free Shop is a natural extension of that philosophy. It offers a new way to think about consumption, generosity, and environmental responsibility. In a time when mass production and waste are major concerns,  Junk Lady is carving out a local solution rooted in care, creativity, and community connection.
