Featured Member NFI North: Changing Lives Through Foster Care

For Featured Member: NFI North, the mission is clear: every child deserves a safe and nurturing environment where they can thrive. As a leader in mental health, educational, and residential services, NFI North empowers individuals and families across New England. We’re thrilled to shine a spotlight on their Foster Care Services, a vital program that provides loving, stable homes for children who have experienced abuse, neglect, or trauma.

Foster Care at NFI North: A Life-Changing Opportunity

NFI North’s ISO Foster Care Program (Individual Service Options) is designed to support youth with complex needs, including physical disabilities, learning challenges, and mental health conditions. Traditional foster care may not always provide the specialized support these children need, so NFI North goes above and beyond to match them with foster families ready to provide individualized care in a home setting.

By fostering a child through NFI North, families play a crucial role in helping them heal, grow, and reach their full potential. The organization provides foster families with extensive training, counseling, and 24/7 support to ensure both the child and the foster parents receive the resources they need to succeed.

Why Foster with NFI North?

Choosing to become a foster parent is a big decision, but with NFI North, you’ll never be alone in the journey. The organization offers comprehensive support, including:

  • Individual and Family Counseling: NFI North believes that to truly support a child, the entire family must be supported. Foster parents receive guidance from professionals trained in trauma-focused therapy.
  • 24/7 On-Call Assistance: Challenges don’t always arise during business hours. NFI North ensures that foster families have access to round-the-clock assistance.
  • Expert-Led Training: Using the Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI) model, foster parents learn how to connect with children who have experienced trauma. This approach is based on cutting-edge research in neuroscience, sensory processing, and attachment.
  • A Team of Licensed Professionals: Families benefit from the expertise of Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselors (LCMHC), Licensed Independent Clinical Social Workers (LICSW), and Licensed Recreational Therapists (CTRS-L) who are dedicated to helping foster children thrive.
  • A Commitment to Transparency & Empowerment: NFI North is steadfast in creating a better foster care system—one foster parent at a time.

Becoming a Foster Parent: What’s Involved?

Foster parents are the heart of this program. They provide a safe, stable, and loving home while working alongside NFI North and other professionals to help the children navigate challenges and reach their personal goals. Whether it’s short-term or long-term placement, foster parents impact a child’s life.

If you’re wondering whether fostering is right for you, NFI North is here to help you explore the process. The team provides personalized support to answer questions, guide you through licensing, and ensure you feel confident in your ability to foster.

Who Do You Know That I Need to Know?

One of the biggest challenges in foster care is finding families willing to open their homes to children in need. If you’re not ready to foster yourself, you can still make a difference by helping connect NFI North with potential foster families. Ask yourself: Who do I know that might be able to foster? A simple conversation could lead to a life-changing opportunity for a child in need.
